What happens if it gets left
One missing tile exposes the underlay directly to rain and UV. Felt that is meant to sit in the dark degrades quickly in the open, and the hole under one tile becomes a hole in the waterproof layer.

Why tiles slip
Nail fatigue and nail rot are the classic causes on older roofs: the fixing goes long before the tile does. Soft or split battens are the next most common, especially where failed underlay has kept them damp.
Frost damage cracks tiles that have absorbed water, and wind uplift pulls at edges, verges and ridges first. Falling branches and foot traffic from other trades account for a fair share too.
Matching old tiles and slates
Concrete profiles change over the decades and many older patterns are discontinued. Where an exact match is not available, we get as close as the market allows on profile and colour and are honest about the difference before we fit anything.
Natural slate is matched on size and thickness as well as colour, and fixed with the correct hooks or nails for the roof rather than whatever is quickest.
When a few tiles mean a bigger problem
If tiles are slipping in numbers across several slopes, the honest answer is usually not more tile replacement. It points at battens, fixings or underlay that have reached the end, and re-felting or a full replacement is the work that actually solves it.
